Hey everyone, the Basset rescue located in Missouri that I fostered with last year, 4 the Hounds, is desperate for fosters, even temporarily for a few months would be a huge help. Gail the foster coordinator just called me today and asked if I was home for the summer and was very disappointed when I told her I was away at school and couldn't help foster.

Urgently needing help right now are 2 male Bassets. One is a senior boy who is fully vetted but has dry eye so just needs eye drops every day, that's it. The other boy is fully vetted and healthy, he's about 3 years old. Both dogs are in boarding kennels right now and have been for months, the rescue just really wants to get them out of boarding and into a foster home environment.

If anyone is in the midwest area, 4 the Hounds could definitely use your help if you're willing to have a "spare Basset" around for a little while. My foster boy Clarence was only with us 6 weeks last summer, 4 the Hounds has an excellent adoption rate and they were terrific to foster with, all vet costs are covered. Gail said they've taken in a whole slew of dumped Bassets this summer, so many that they had to take out a loan to pay for boarding since they don't have enough foster homes right now.

Bassets aren't that big of dogs, anyone willing to have a small big dog around the house for the summer even? 4 the Hounds would be SO grateful. Thanks for reading! I can get anyone in touch with Gail if you're willing to help out.

Forgot to mention that transport options ARE available and can be set up for those willing to foster in the midwest area. We drove 90 minutes one way to pick up our foster boy last year but the other end of the transport drove close to 3 hours one way to bring him to us.

Thanks Dianna, I know you'd help if you could, you've got a house full I know. I so wish I weren't taking summer courses and could help out but you can bet over winter break I'll be volunteering if they need me.

I know that foster homes are in short supply. I foster (greyhounds) and every time we get a new foster home it seems like somebody else adopts and stops fostering.

I wish I could help but my house has 7-8 dogs at any given time...my 6 and fosters. I hope that these hounds find a foster home...and more importantly a forever home...very soon!

I wish my bratty Basset would allow others in the house, though I'm not sure my mom would be up to it. Have they contacted any other Basset rescues about fosters? I know it seems they're in short supply every where, but it's worth a chance.

There's at least 4 other Basset rescues all very close by in this area, they pull needy Bassets left and right from shelters in this area, so they all pitch in as best they can. Foster homes are in short supply right now with the economy and many people busy with summer plans. I know these Basset rescues in my area keep in close contact but they are all full of Bassets it seems.
