3 Older Saints - URGENT - I NEED Porchie Help!

Received via email:

Fellow Rescuers!
I have an URGENT situation here involving a "back door breeder" AND 3 Saint Bernards! This so called "breeder" wants these dogs out of her house by the end of THIS WEEK or she will have them euthanized ..... These dogs are living in a terrible situation with this woman, they live in her basement, have NEVER seen a vet nor have they EVER gotten any shots! None of them are spayed or neutered! They are a mess and need to be groomed.
Its just TERRIBLE! There are two males, one is 10 and the other is 6 yrs old.... and one female, 8 yrs old. One of the males has a chronic ear infection in BOTH ears and it has NEVER been treated! This woman wouldn't even let us take pictures!!!! PLEASE if you can help us by taking one or more of these dogs into a "safe place" you would be saving their lives! If you or anyone you know can help please contact:
Tracey's Hope Volunteer, Kathy Holmes at (570) 471-3174 or email kholmes1416@comcast.net

I called Kathy. I have offered, at the very least to house ONE until we can find a Saint Rescue. I told her to come to BDP and post all of the details (I hope she does!). This woman is giving the dogs away FREE. If we cannot find Saint Rescue IMMEDIATELY, I am going to put out a ChipIn for vaccines and boarding for the remaining 2. I really truly need your help this time more than ever. We need to get these 3 before they are given away to more BYB's.

Crosspost, email, contact anyone you know. We can do this, collectively. I can't do it alone!!!!

Kathy is working on joining now to give more details and post photos of the 4th dog, that she has taken in. She has had a Saint rescue contact her back but they want photos and vaccs done. She called around earlier today for prices for her girl, and we are looking at $69 per dog for vaccs. At the minimum, if I am going to help these dogs I need to raise this so that we can get them into boarding and solicit for a Saint rescue to step up.

Going to put the ChipIn up now. These dogs are under an hour from me.

ETA that when she spoke to the woman who has these dogs after I talked to her, she has no "takers"at this point. They are all still in he care.

ChipIn Link (please remove Mods, if this is not acceptable): http://feralcattnr.chipin.com/3-sain...s-and-boarding

What I have posted on the ChipIn and will be updated as we get more information:

Received via email, 3 Saint Bernards ages 6-10, in the care of a backyard breeder who has threatened to euthanize and/or give away to the first person who contacts her. They are matted. They are filthy. They have been living in a BASEMENT their entire life and have never even had vaccines. We are a SMALL rescue and I do not have a place to put 3 extra large dogs. I have offered to house ONE and raise funds for vaccines and boarding until we can find a more permanent rescue for them.

Please. Our funds are depleted. But I simply cannot stand by and watch 3 dogs so close to home (under an hour) die or be given away to more backyard breeders. Vaccines are going to run $69 per dog at our cheapest quote. We will need money to board them. I beg you. Every dollar counts.

As of 9:20 PM Kathy, the woman who alerted rescues to this situation, has spoken with the owner who still has ALL THREE. A Saint Rescue HAS responded but wants photos and vaccs, both of which are impossible until we get them from this wretched woman. Here is the original email plea:

"Fellow Rescuers!

We cannot do this alone. PLEASE consider donating and/or crossposting. These seniors do not deserve this. They need a loving retirement home.

Is there a PA Saint Rescue? Maybe the New England rescue can at least point you in the right direction: http://www.saintbernardrescue.org/
Judy, their president, has been helpful in other situations.

These dogs might not be easy to handle, Shannon--there may be temperament problems with older, unsocialized Saints...

Oh I know Martha, and I sure hope this isn't the case My goal is to get them to safety, assess, and hopefully find Saint Rescue who has experience with this sort of thing. I will email them, just about to text a vet tech friend of mine to see if there is open boarding space at my vet's office.

Hello everyone,
My name is Kathy and I have spoken to Shannon about the Saints needing emergency homes. Originally there were 4 saints but I took one and am vetting and caring for her. She is our new addition to the family and she is sweet. Gentle Giant.
She is dirty and WAS very matted but sat patiently for me to cut all the mats out. She allows me to brush her as if to say "Thank you so much" and she has perked up even since we brought her home yesterday. She gets along with my other big dogs, I have 5 total and a smaller dog who I am fostering. She is good with people since she was present at the 4th of July party at my house yesterday and just sat on the wicker loveseat observing. I also met the 10 y o male when I picked MOMMA up and he is a mess as well but did come over to me in a social manner, sniffed then walked away. I am going to try to post pics of the girl I took when I brought her home. I'm new at this so bear with me. BTW they are all AKC with papers. Please help if you can.

Oh my gosh. Best wishes on this. Sometimes I wish people would let others know they need to rehome their dogs BEFORE it gets to the "euthanasia on Friday" point.

Sometimes rescues that usually do other breeds will take dogs in that are in dire need like this. Tough situation.

If we had the finances at this time or the space I would really, really love to help out in any way I can. As it stands, I can only say good luck, and send good wishes for these poor babies.

Shannon is going bonkers on the phone right now.. but asked me to pass along this information:

**Permission to Crosspost Granted**

Update: July 5th, 2010 - 10:40pm

PA Stray Save, Inc. is intending to take custody of the 3 Saint Bernards and move them into Boarding. We will be picking them up tomorrow, accessing medical conditions and vaccinating them before boarding. We will add the Boarding location if you wish to donate directly to the Boarding Kennel. We will be contacting Saint Bernard Breed Rescues in hopes of a placement. Please note they are extremely matted and will need to be seen by a Groomer at some point. Any donation to the below chip-in is appreciated and we will be updating with pictures tomorrow.

Well I did not sleep a wink. Internet is finally back up. Have made arrangements to pick up the dogs at 6:15 am because apparently the owner is not available the rest of the day, and I myself am not available the rest of the week. We've arranged boarding for $12 per day per dog, granted that the vet gives them the thumbs up and they are not contagious with anything.

So, van's all cleaned out, getting coffee, and I'm on my way. I can only hope that these guys are in fact of stable temperament. Going into something like this with such time constraints, there's no way to know, but they deserve the opportunity for us to find out.

Do any of the rescues give their own vaccines? You can give the basics for $4.00 per dog- a big savings from $69 per dog and then that leaves more money for other costs involved in rescue Good luck with the Saints and bless you for stepping forward!!

Wondering how it went? And I was thinking the same thing about Vac's Pat. But now with going into boarding at a clinic that pretty much means they will do it.
