Does anyone know anything about German Shepherd Dog Rescue of Iowa or Mississippi Valley German Shepherd Dog Rescue?

WHY? I can find out. I am fairly well connected with GSD peeps now.

My brother in law is being forced to rehome Dallas. Im looking for "plan B" incase the breeder cant/wont take him.

Dallas is a 5 month old male. Intact, no vaccinations, has not been dewormed that I know of. Plays well with other dogs, good with kids and knows "sit" and learning "down".

How do you feel about the breeder taking him back? Would he be better of being placed through a good GSD rescue?

Without knowing the breeder its hard to say. The breeder is a friend of Norms, Ive never met him and really know nothing about him other than he had a litter of GSD puppies about 5 months ago. Norm says he takes good care of his dogs, thats really all I have to go on.

As for my feelings..mixed. A rescue would know the right questions to ask to find Dallas the perfect home for him, but if the breeder takes him rescue has room for another more urgent puppy/dog. Selfishly...if he goes to rescue we lose all contact with him, if the breeder takes him we may not.

I dont know what the right choice is, Im too close to the middle of this one to really think logically.

Just got a text "we have to do that rescue thing". This means time to start firing off emails, right?

Janice (Lurchmom) is well-connected, like she mentioned above. Have you let her know about the situation? She may know of some in your area.

Other than this thread, I have not discussed the situation with her.

Im feeling more hopeful about this situation this morning. I emailed back and forth with a lady from mvgsdr last night. Had Norm come over and help fill out their requested "paper" work, emailed that back. Now we wait to see if they'll accept Dallas into their program.

I just want to see Dallas in the right home (which, really, could be any home that can afford his care!). I would keep him in a heartbeat if I could afford him...it's not fair to him or Bus to keep him here otherwise. An owner that knows how to train a puppy and has the time to do so...Dallas will be absolutely perfect. I am going to miss the little fireball.

What do I need to know if we end up having to place Dallas without the aid of rescue? What questions do I need to ask? How do I make sure he's not bounced from home to home? His "breeder" may have failed him, but I have no intention of doing the same.

I was talking to another mom this morning at the bus stop...okay, I was whining about being tired because I was up past my bedtime last night Her boyfriend has been looking for a GSD puppy, they're on a waiting list with several area shelters.

A volunteer from mvgsdr will be meeting with Norm and Dallas tomorrow afternoon. I believe she'll be taking Dallas at that time.

It really is for the best. At least through the rescue he'll receive the vet care he needs and Im sure they'll do a great job finding the perfect home for him. We're going to miss the little fireball and the energy he brings into our house with each visit. Hopefully we'll get some updates somehow. Ive already "liked" the facebook page so we'll see what comes across
