A local friend just contacted me.


Subject line: Great Pyr

"Hey, I know you guys live in a smaller place but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask... That friend of mine that took in the great pyr thinks she's bitten off more than she can chew. They didn't tell her that he's deaf until she was picking him up. He's been at our house for the last couple days because she's afraid he'll jump her fence so he's in our kennels. He's sooooo sweet and gets along great with all the girls. (Kodiak is a buttface so they're not allowed together). Any chance Sakari needs a friend?"


Can I have some Pyr rescue info?

For a special needs Pyr in Texas? Google Lonestar Pyrs and Paws (I know Paige personally, she's wonderful) or SPIN (Saving Pyrs in Need) (I know their foster coordinator, he's awesome too). Poor boy!

This is really seeming fishy and I'm getting irritated at the "friend". This is the first email I got from my friend:


"I have a friend who is thinking of adopting a rescued great pyr. I told her about sakari and if y'all don't mind I may give her your email. She is a little nervous about getting a large breed and I think it would make her feel better to talk it over with someone who has one. Would you mind?"


I received this message five days ago, told her I'd be thrilled to help out and that I also had a really great dog forum she could join with plenty of tips and advice. The woman didn't contact me, and now this happens.

Hmmmm, does sound fishy

I'd totally take him in a heartbeat if only even to foster him. I hope my friend will follow through and get me the info or contact the rescue herself.

Our local rescues are crap, so I guess it's possible they didn't tell her he was deaf until she picked him up, but it seems unlikely.

"No, her cousin knows a sheriff or someone who picked him up in Idalou. He didn't come from a rescue, per se. He's a non-neutered male with the double dew claws. She got him all his shots today. As far as I know there's nothing wrong with him, and he's beautiful and lovable and totally awesome. We'd keep him if not for kodiak. They say he's between a year and two years but I really don't know for sure. I took some pictures of him this morning but haven't processed them yet. Will send you some when I do."

It does sound fishy. Poor boy...hope he finds a rescue and a home soon.

Updated: The woman who thought she couldn't handle it at first is now keeping him, even inexperienced with giant breeds, and with him being deaf. She hasn't and probably won't contact me either. Great!
