Old Skinny Dog

This dog has never been an easy feeder nor is food really her "thing". When she was a pup she would go on hunger strikes unless she was getting exactly what she wanted in her bowl (wet food on the dry). Even now my brother has to watch her eat and give her a command to eat along with stirring her food half way through. Not spoiled at all....

Now she's 10.5 gets only as much exercise as she wants, which isn't much, and is feeling pretty skinny. You can feel that her ribs are prominent and so is her spine. She's always been a thin dog but she is down right skinny. She's now my parent's dog (long story) and they will only let me change so much. I made her homemade food which she snarfed down, promptly got sick, and now they won't feed her more. Nevermind that they gave her too much all at once or that for about the first time in the dog's life she inhaled food. . They did let me change her kibble so I put her on the chicken Nature's variety Instinct since it's pretty high calorie and I don't know if it's my imagination but there might be a slight improvement. She's out of that now, does any one know of a higher calorie food (the NV is 490 per cup) I could give her? She doesn't eat a lot so I would like to get as many calories as I can into what she does eat.

They seemed to be thawing on maybe some raw hamburger or something. I was thinking Satin Balls but I don't know if that would be a long term option. I've only heard of them being used for short periods of time.

Ideas would be great! I'll see what I can get my parent's to try. I'm thinking I'll whip up some satin balls to start but then....

Yeah Satin balls are for short term use only...

Evo Red and Turkey/Chicken are both high at 527-537 cal per cup.

Any of the Nature's Logic are all around 550 a cup.

Timberwolf are all over 500 a cup.

and otherwise we're talking puppy food - California Naturals or Blue Buffalo puppy foods.

Would puppy food be bad? Both those brands are readily available here whereas the of the others, I've only seen Evo.

Thanks for the info!
