Izzy Back/Hips

Howdy -
About 2-3 weeks ago, Izzy went outside at night like she does before we go to bed. When she was outside, she did her little shake and she started to yelp. She squatted down to pee, and yelped. When she walked up the stairs, same little yelps.

We took her to the vet the next day and they did a lyme test which came back negative. They put her on anti-inflammatory and i bought the glucosimine supplements. She never really liked anyone behind her and always tensed up if anyone was under her near her back. She eats, drinks, runs around the yard, jumps on the couch, lays down/gets up no problem for the past 2 weeks.

Last night we let her upstairs, she yelped on the way up. Odds are we will have xrays done soon. But how could she run, jump, play, jump on the couch twist around and show zero discomfort, but climbing stairs does. (they are steep stairs for a house). Also, she doesnt limp at all.

Thanks!
Vinnie

Maybe it is something that is pinching. Also could it be in the lower leg/foot area?

That sounds very similar to what happened to Murphy a while back... he hesitated going up stairs and also yelped, but no limping... but he was also hesitant to come onto the couch... Izzy is not. I took him to the Vet and of course he was bouncing all over the place and the Vet couldnt see or feel any obvious issue. He suggested that its possibly a pulled muscle... which is most likely was

I hope its nothing serious and that she feels better soon!

Its just odd that walking up the stairs is the ONLY thing bothering her. Walking down she is fine, and everything else she does in the house or outside she doesn't say 2 words.

Hmm - Linda's Gunner did something similar recently - would not go up stairs to save his own life but everything else was fine. Then he randomly started doing stairs again LOL.

Perhaps she's got a pinched nerve or disc in her back?

Obviously I would sell a kidney to pay for anything she needs, but should I give it a few weeks? She was on Rimadyl (spelling?) and it seemed to help - tried the stairs last night and she yelped )=

Be careful with Rimadyl. Scares the crap outta me: rimadyl kills - Google Search

If it were me, I'd probably take her back in for x-rays... although a thorough vet exam would be needed to tell exactly where she's hurting. If nothing shows up on x-ray, I would treat with a certified veterinary chiropractor.

Stairs can put pressure on different areas than regular walking. When Winslow first started having hip issues, our main sign was not doing the stairs, though he acted like a goofball everywhere else. Izzy's sounds more acute, like something sprained or that happened in a moment, but I think it could be something that affects stair climbing more than anything. Hope its something that gets better for her soon.
