Dog Personality Typing Test

www.petconnectgame.com

Has anyone tried this? What do you think of it? Ever heard of the Canine Behavior Type Index?

Sofia is medium activity and a "beta" based on the test... but I took it twice and depending on how I emphasize different aspects of her behavior is either a Dreamer or a Sentry... could be either or both.

Unfortunately they charge for the full explanations of the types so I am Googling them now...

Norah is a Deputy:

Your dog is an Organised, Gamma and High Activity type which we call the Deputy. The Deputy is a submissive, mouldable, balanced character. It happily does the leader's bidding, is easily led and controlled but prefers an orderly environment. The Deputy conforms to its leader's wishes most readily. Deputies are easy to train, willing to conform socially and team spirited. They are everybody's friend.

Yoji is an Adventurer:

Your dog is a Spontaneous, Beta and High Activity type which we call the Adventurer. The Adventurer regularly challenges the social order, routine and environmental orderliness. It constantly searches for new social and environmental standards. It is highly competitive with plenty of energy and a playful spirit but not great at group activities.

Hanzo is a Defender:

Your dog is an Organized, Alpha and High Activity type which we call the Defender. The Defender's social position is ambiguous due its Beta (B) nature and it may appear to be a leader or a follower at various times. Defenders are flexible about social structure but their Organised (O) factor means that environmental order and clear rules are preferred. In the 'original wolf pack' Defenders could easily fill any positions vacated due to illness or accident.

Misha is a Companion:

Your dog is a Spontaneous, Gamma and Medium Activity type which we call the Companion. The Companion has the softest, most charming character for a family pet. They are funny, silly, laid back, subservient and obedient. It is rarely serious, is everyone's friend and its favourite pastime is to 'ride' the couch. The most unobjectionable combination of traits. Do not expect it to be a strong watch dog, athlete, or seem especially clever.

Deeken is a diplomat

Quote:
Your dog is an Organised, Gamma and Medium Activity type which we call the Diplomat. The Diplomat is a task focused, submissive character employing passive, medium energy techniques. It strives to keep order in a small but meaningful area and do the leader's bidding in a passive, sometimes underhanded manner. The combination of Submissive (Gamma or G) and Medium (M) energy factors make the Diplomat a soft, loving, easy care character.
Some of those were hard to answer though. I don't think it completely fits him.

Sammie: OBM - Sentry

Your dog is an Organised, Beta and Medium Activity type which we call the Sentry. The Organised (O) factor motivates territoriality and the need to control its environment. Sentries can easily switch from dominant to submissive strategies due to the Beta (B) social status factor. The Medium (M) energy factor means they will defend and control modest areas.

Gus: SGM - Companion

Your dog is a Spontaneous, Gamma and Medium Activity type which we call the Companion. The Companion has the softest, most charming character for a family pet. They are funny, silly, laid back, subservient and obedient. It is rarely serious, is everyone's friend and its favourite pastime is to 'ride' the couch. The most unobjectionable combination of traits. Do not expect it to be a strong watch dog, athlete, or seem especially clever.

Archie: OAM - Director

Your dog is an Organised, Alpha and Medium Activity type which we call the Director. The Director enjoys an orderly environment, strong, clear leadership and 'owns' defined small territories e.g. the home, car, owner or couch. The Director's goal is to control, protect, defend and maintain order in its chosen territory/command post.

Lucky Lu: OGM - Diplomat

Your dog is an Organised, Gamma and Medium Activity type which we call the Diplomat. The Diplomat is a task focused, submissive character employing passive, medium energy techniques. It strives to keep order in a small but meaningful area and do the leader's bidding in a passive, sometimes underhanded manner. The combination of Submissive (Gamma or G) and Medium (M) energy factors make the Diplomat a soft, loving, easy care character.

Chippy's test results. Some of those questions needed another choice to click on.

SBM - Dreamer

Your dog is a Spontaneous, Beta and Medium Activity type which we call the Dreamer. The Dreamer is disorganised, socially and mentally. It lacks the energy to assert an active social challenge but may challenge a very easy going owner or dog over some prized resource such as the couch or a bone, perhaps curling its lip or snarling occasionally. It enjoys freeform pastimes such as watching TV or sniffing about off lead most of all.

I would have answered the same for all 3 of the girls. They are:
OGM - Diplomat

Your dog is an Organised, Gamma and Medium Activity type which we call the Diplomat. The Diplomat is a task focused, submissive character employing passive, medium energy techniques. It strives to keep order in a small but meaningful area and do the leader's bidding in a passive, sometimes underhanded manner. Which is probably why they pack well.

some of the questions didnt suit Murphy, he is NOT high energy or extremely lazy, he is inbetween.... anyway I tried my best to answer them! And he came out a Rebel

SAH - Rebel

Your dog is a Spontaneous, Alpha and High Activity type which we call the Rebel. The Rebel is a High (H) energy (yea right), full blooded dog with presence and attitude. Its focus is narrow, strong, and often not on its owner (sometimes). Aimless, free activity suits the Rebel. It loves to go jogging, have a wander and sniff about true.

Several of those were either really hard to choose between, or they needed a "neither" option because none of the responses fit Bianca. Also a lot of them seemed to be asking the same thing multiple times.

Bianca got OGM - Diplomat but looking at the results the answers were divided between A, B, and G so I think it could have easily been a B instead of G. The only bars that were not divided was O and S, the "O" bar was pretty much all the way to the top. A Shepherd organized? Who woulda thunk?

Winnie is OBM "Sentry"

Stanley is SAH "Rebel"

Its really hard to answer for Winnie because he is very interested in trying to follow what I ask of him and doesn't want to ignore us, but is overridden by fear often.

Stan on the other hand knows what we are saying and doesn't give a crap LOL Rebel is probably a good term for him in some ways - though he is very interested in what we are doing at all times, he just wants us to do what HE wants us to do at all times.

I think the most interesting thing for me is seeing that at almost every juncture my dogs are complete opposites. I knew that already, but this really pointed it out. And in this case, opposites do not attract!

Here is Pax...pretty much nailed him on the head

Your dog is an Organised, Alpha and High Activity type which we call the Commando. The Commando is the most forceful, eye catching yet restrained character. It needs to work and will be on the go all day long. It sees the big picture and is most comfortable and effective working in a team. The Commando is calm, yet energetic maintaining focus on the team leader and the task at hand.

I found the questions ambiguous, there often wasn't a distinction regarding whether he exhibited behaviors with humans, or with other dogs. And often neither option applied.
But I answered the best I could and this is what came up;

Quote:
OBH - Defender

Your dog is an Organized, Alpha and High Activity type which we call the Defender. The Defender's social position is ambiguous due its Beta (B) nature and it may appear to be a leader or a follower at various times. Defenders are flexible about social structure but their Organised (O) factor means that environmental order and clear rules are preferred. In the 'original wolf pack' Defenders could easily fill any positions vacated due to illness or accident.

Well, as soon as a typing test for dogs starts saying things like, "In a wolf pack, your dog would..." I get skeptical. My dog isn't anything like any kind of wolf, really.

Lizzi, I was reading a Vicki Hearne book and she insists that shepherds are highly organized, to the point that their biggest strength is "What's wrong with this picture?" Of course that can lead to problems, but in working with a human shepherd to control a flock, it's perfect. Enough independent thinking to ensure competence.
